In August 2026, to kick-start the project, I conducted a survey across a couple of informal settlements via my partner NGO, Manav Sadhna’s access, assessing access to green and open spaces, perceived and experienced air quality, challenges related to heat and temperature regulation, and existing environmental practices adopted by residents.
I personally translated the survey to both Gujarati and colloquial Hindi and gained responses from approximately 30 respondents in total. The findings highlighted a need for greater access to greenery and informed the design of subsequent CityHack interventions, including the installation of vertical gardens, development of educational resources, and community awareness initiatives.
