CityHacks Collective (CHC)’s mission is clear. To dedicate its interventions towards improving environmental quality and quality of life within urban informal settlements across Ahmedabad. Built on the idea that sustainability should be accessible regardless of someone’s income or available space, the project hopes to combine research, education, implementation, and collaborations that encourage residents to adopt simple environmental practices that can create meaningful improvements. CHC also hopes to make sure that all of its work is relevant, affordable, and maintainable over years.
To bring the same to life, we will begin by conducting a community survey to better understand local environmental challenges, author a set of children's books that can help introduce sustainability to younger children, develop a five-chapter educational primer explaining topics such as urban heat stress, vertical gardening, and sustainable household practices to older demographics; and mobilise funding that helps support the installation of low-cost green spaces. Through these interconnected efforts, CHC seeks to empower communities with both the knowledge and the resources needed to build more climate-resilient urban environments.
